Repainting your home is a significant project that will give your spaces a new look and make your house feel new.
However, several tips and techniques can make your “paint day” much easier, more practical, cleaner, and more fun.
1. The right paint makes the difference
Choosing the right paint is the key to a successful project. There are different finishes, some designed for wet rooms (bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms), and others for outdoors.
2. Always prepared for drips
We recommend always having a damp cloth on hand. This way, you can correct drips right when they happen, and they are much easier to clean.
3. Clean can, easy cleanup
If you surround the paint can with a rubber band, you can use it to remove excess paint; this brings you two benefits. Don’t get paint on the edges of the can, and in the future, you will avoid the can sticking, and you will waste less paint since everything that drips falls back into the can.
4. Painting is not moving
One of the most laborious parts of painting is moving the furniture, we recommend that, instead of taking all the furniture out of the room, you gather it in the center and cover it with a plastic tarp.
This way, your work will be more accessible, and you will do less physical work.
5. Protection is the key to cleaning
Prepare protective materials for your furniture, floor, clothes, etc. Some materials you can use are Plastic tarps, newspaper, painter’s tape, plastic bags, and waterproof ponchos.
Be resourceful in coming up with cleaning solutions. For example, if you cover your paint tray with a plastic bag, you won’t waste time washing it afterwards since you will only have to throw away the bag, and your tray will be as good as new.
6. Brush, roller, or spray gun
Each one has different uses and characteristics.
The roller is useful for quickly painting large areas that do not require much precision, while the brush is useful for carefully painting the corners of rooms or parts that need care, such as light fixtures or uneven walls. On the other hand, the spray gun will allow you to paint quickly and evenly, but it involves a higher initial investment and more preparation time to protect all surfaces that could be affected.
7. Check the weather forecast
The weather is a significant factor in the speed of paint drying; it is not recommended to paint on cloudy or rainy days. On the contrary, take advantage of sunny days to paint both exteriors and interiors, since the dry environment will make your paint dry much faster.
8. Importance of good lighting
It is important to paint with the light on and with good natural lighting; it also allows you to detect errors quickly, and it will always give you a clear idea of how the paint tone will look once the project is finished.
